Cycle Right Training

Well done to our senior class who completed their four week “Cycle Right” cycling course with Fergus and Gemma McDaid of Cycling Ireland.

Over the course of the last 4 weeks they learned the rules of the road as well as becoming competent in cycling on the road.

They were taught about safety equipment, rules of the road, starting and stopping, road positioning, shoulder checking, turning left and right, overtaking and traffic manoeuvres, how to cycle in a group and on-road training.

The training was invaluable as they learned the safety skills required to assess situations when cycling on the road. Three of the sessions took place in the school yard with the final session taking place on the road where the children put the skills they learned into practice.

The instructors taught the class how cycling properly is an important life skill that they can take with them as they progress on to secondary school as well as helping them lead a healthy lifestyle. It’s also great for the environment too!

Thank you to Gemma and Fergus for coming to Drumman and sharing their cycling knowledge with us.
