It was a very proud day for everyone in Drumman yesterday as we raised our Active Flag. The whole school played a part in achieving the Active Flag spurred on by the teachers and the Active Committee.
The aim of the Active Schools Flag is to encourage schools to be more active, more often. Being active doesn’t mean that you’re the best at football or the fastest in your class. It is about promoting and living an active lifestyle.
Our guest of honour was Milford AC’s James Gibbons. James is a talented middle distance runner, walker, coach and is the Chairperson of Milford AC. He has a great ability to relate to young athletes and help them enjoy, engage and excel in sport. We were very lucky that he could raise the flag and celebrate this momentous occasion with us.
Throughout the Active School renewal process, the students took part in active challenges such as Climb The Heights, Run Around Ireland, Active Breaks, Daily mile and many more. An important part of the process was highlighting the importance of being active both in school and in the local community. We did this by promoting local events, clubs and organisations on our notice board and social media outlets.
It’s fantastic to see the flag flying high outside our school. Well done to everyone involved!
