Last week, our school successfully celebrated Maths Week aimed at fostering students’ interest and skills in mathematics through engaging, hands-on activities. It ran from Monday to Friday, and included a range of interactive games, puzzles, and even a bake sale to close the week. The goal of Maths Week was to make learning fun and encourage students to apply their mathematical knowledge in creative ways.
Each day the students took part in different maths activities.
Monday:
The week kicked off with a candy corn maze held outside, where students had to navigate their way through while solving math problems. Additionally, target boards were set up, allowing students to practice their math skills in a more interactive, competitive environment.
Tuesday:
Students continued to work on target boards, and a new activity, Sudoku, was introduced. Sudoku challenged students’ logical reasoning and number skills, giving them a fun and stimulating way to work with numbers.
Wednesday:
The day featured targets and a game called 21 Bust, an exciting and fast-paced activity that tested students’ ability to perform quick calculations.
Thursday:
Target boards were once again available for students to sharpen their skills. They also participated in 21 Bust, a variation of Wednesday’s game, along with a Maths Week Quiz that encouraged teamwork and collaboration while solving a variety of math problems.
Friday:
The final day of Maths Week combined learning with a bit of fun and competition. The students had a chance to estimate and guess the total number of sweets in a jar, applying their mathematical estimation skills. The week ended with a highly successful bake sale, where students had the opportunity to showcase their numerical skills through transactions and pricing.
The response from students throughout Maths Week was overwhelmingly positive. They enjoyed the variety of activities, and many expressed that the games made learning math more enjoyable. By engaging in these activities, the students were able to build confidence in their problem-solving abilities.
