Wainfest 2025: Malachy Doyle

The Junior Room had a wonderful outing to Milford Library as part of Wainfest, the annual Donegal festival celebrating books and stories. The children were very excited to meet Malachy Doyle, an award-winning author who has written over 120 children’s books enjoyed by readers all over the world. His stories range from magical tales of old Ireland to his much-loved Molly/Muireann picture book series inspired by life on the small island where he lives.

During the workshop Malachy captivated the pupils with his warm storytelling style. He read from some of his books bringing the characters and settings vividly to life. The children were spellbound as he shared how ideas for his stories come from his own life and the people and places around him.

After his readings there was a lively question and answer session where pupils from Drumman had the chance to ask Malachy about his books, his writing process and what it’s like to be an author. He encouraged the children to use their imaginations to read widely and to never stop writing their own stories.
